Rotary Ikons club decided to increase the green cover of our city by 10000 more trees and held discussions with Bharathiyar University Vice Chancellor and Registrar who were delighted to participate in this beautiful project and in no time gave their consent to allot land ,  dig bore well and fence the boundaries to prevent cattle from destroying the saplings . RCCI coordinated with M/s Praxair Surface Technologies , a multinational company and went ahead with arranging for 10000 saplings of minimum 2 feet height , laying of pipe line for drip irrigation , preparing the land for pitting at 7 to 10 ft interval , digging of pits of size 1.25 ft for planting saplings etc.  In order to spread awareness of the importance of extending the green cover , our club RCCI was keen on executing this project by involving maximum no. of students and with the able support of Bharathiyar University through their NSS coordinator , 5000 students took part in this mega event to carry out our project ‘Green Initiative’ on the 25^th of October , 2017 and such was the enthusiasm shown by all participants that within an hour the entire lot of saplings were planted . It is needless to say that our project was well received and appreciated

 

The total cost of the project including preparation of land, pitting , purchase of saplings , laying of drip irrigation pipe line , providing 5000 pairs of hand gloves to 5000 students , banners and fliers and other sundry expenses was around Rs. 4 lacs and excluding cost of digging of bore well , installation of motor and pump set , availing new electricity connection , fencing around 12 acres of land, stage arrangements , refreshments etc., all of which was which was borne by the University
